Spring Season Is Detailing Season!

Spring Detailing is Here!

With the kick start of the Spring season finally here, I’m sure everyone is having fun driving their cars or working on DIY projects in the garage. I’m curious to know what is the first thing everyone did when the weather hit fifty degrees? For the people that do not know, I live in New York where the winter was brutally cold and the snow did a number on the roads making it difficult to drive. Did you remove the car cover, gave it a nice wash and detail, or went on a “spirited” drive?

One of the first things I will do this weekend is give it a nice wash and if time permits, a good clay bar session. Every time I went for a drive, the snow and salt would mess up the clean look or the pigeons are target practicing on the spoiler.

I recently bought some more Meguir’s cleaning agents, microfiber towels, and sonax wheel cleaners. What products and tools are you using to clean your car? Please comment below with some pictures and links to what works well and what doesn’t. Thank you.

The Redesigned 2015 WRX STi Review…Part 3

The Redesigned 2015 WRX STi Review…Part 3

Today, I’m going to concentrate on the Exterior and Interior. However, this review will not be based on the traditional details of the car such as the World Rally Blue color, BBS wheels, or the “BIG” spoiler. We all know these are the top three traits of any STi. Instead, I want to talk about what Subaru did right and what items still need upgrading.

Exterior

What drastically changed the most in my opinion is the front of the car. Do I love it? No. Is it ugly? No and here’s why.

2015 WRX STI Front Bumper

I think the overall exterior change makes the car look more aggressive than the GR/ GV models. The front’s nose and bumper have sharp angles and lines, thus eliminating the previous model’s curvatures. The hood scoop is flatter which may or may not impact performance. It would’ve been nice to add a grille mesh to match the front grille and the newly added bottom grille. The lip on the bumper is a nice touch to add to the aggressiveness.

Next, is my favorite upgrade which are the LED headlights. Moving away from the halogen bulbs to LED’s increases brighter output and look. It has a very similar style as the current Audi headlights. To make it immaculate, would be to retrofit the TSX headlights as they are Bi-Xenon. Much better quality in my opinion.

At the rear of the car, they added a diffuser and left a small opening in the middle that currently has a mesh grille. Maybe, the JDM gods will make another brake light kit!

I could care less about the trunk as its similar to the Legacy. The rear tail lights are upgraded as well with some red overlays for aesthetics. A look that is very popular on the 5 door hatches!

Interior

The interior has finally been heard at Subaru from the plethora of owners on various items. One of the obvious changes is the steering wheel. It was sought after to have a flat bottom D shaped wheel for that sporty look. Unfortunately, they took out the STI logo from the airbag cover and added it to a plastic silver trim on the bottom. Tacky…

The center console also added a boost gauge screen which will eliminate a need to add one to the dash console which requires drilling on the current models.2015 WRX STI Interior

The shifter console also has a visually nice upgrade with the BRZ round shifter bezel and carbon fiber trimming.

Similarly, my interior was also swapped out with a DAMD Prova D-shape steering wheel with alcantara. Decided to match the wheel with the JPM Coachworks e-brake and shifter boots.I would like to wrap the center and shifter consoles as well to remove the silver look. Not sure to go with alcantara or carbon fiber vinyl.

Thoughts???

Now, the biggest issue that I have and what most Subaru enthusiasts are thinking is that the new 2015 Subaru WRX STI looks very much like the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO. I have to agree with them as Subaru wanted the WRX and STI to be in a separate class than the Imprezza.

However, their choices in style made it seem as though Subaru and Mitsubishi were to have an illegitimate child, it would look like this.

I am crossing my fingers that the aftermarket world will come up with ideas to truly make the STi one of a kind. With that, I hope everyone enjoyed my views on the new 2015 Subaru WRX STI.

Thank you for the recent comments. I hope to hear more from everyone and their thoughts. In the next few posts, I will talk about the Cobb Access Port and a few other minor mods that I did on my 2012 STi aka “BlackBearSTi”.
